Paul Clabuesh, President and Chief Executive Officer will be retiring effective June 30, 2023.
Mr. Clabuesch's tenure includes eight years of service in which he led the facility in two major Board of trustee's multi-million-dollar renovation and expansion projects. The first one being the new Medical Arts Building, which provides physician offices, patient treatment rooms, orthopedic services a mental health and telepsychiatry clinic and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Second, he carried out the Board of Trustees extensive building and modernization plans for the Main Hospital with a new Lobby, private registration desks, Walk-In Clinic, Laboratory Draw Room with accessible bathroom facilities, new Nuclear Medicine facility and much more. In addition, the Hospital's Port Hope Medical Clinic continues to have a full-time primary care provider. Senior Life Solutions continues to have a successful program as well.
Unlike much of the wider Thumb and National experience, Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab, located within the hospital, lost no lives to Covid-19 during the pandemic. A safe outdoor patio area was developed under the supervision of Mr. Clabuesch in the order to provide residents with fresh air and an opportunity for visits with loved one while enjoying a view of Lake Huron.
Board Chairperson Patrick McCollough, commented that, "Paul's upbeat and positive energy is obvious in his successful physician recruitment and retention program, his local service club participation, as well as his contributions to the development of the Covenant Regional Thumb Network, a confederation of other small hospitals throughout the Thumb of Michigan. I don't believe we could have accomplished all that we have without him. His leadership turned the Harbor Beach Community Hospital into a very successful institution with the independent capability to survive, modernize, and expand its buildings and services to Harbor Beach and the surrounding communities as an effective rural health care facility. By caring out the directions of the Board of Trustees, Paul accomplished the first bricks and mortar renovation to the hospital's facilities in over 50 years. He oversaw the expansion of services by hiring several well-qualified full-time physicians, a full-service walk-in Clinic and an Emergency room staffed around the clock with onsite Emergency trained Board-Certified Emergency Department Physicians." Paul stated, "All of that has been accomplished is a result of the great efforts of our outstanding Board of Trustees and the staff that I had the benefit of working with."
Mr. Clabuesch has chosen to retire at this time to fulfill his personal pursuits, spend more time with his family and grandchildren, travel, and have time to appreciate the major accomplishments of his life.
The Board of Trustees congratulates Mr. Clabuesch and wishes him the best in his retirement.
Effective July 1, 2023; Jill Wehner, current Vice-President of Fiscal Services and Chief Operating Officer will become interim President and CEO. Ms. Wehner has been an integral part of Harbor Beach Community Hospital over the past twenty-three years and will provide a smooth transition.
